Strength Training
Strength training or resistance training works your muscles by using a resistance such as a weight e.g. a dumbbell, kettle or even your own body weight. Strength training increases lean muscle mass which is very important for weight loss because lean muscle burns more calories than other tissues.
Strength training becomes very important as people age because they naturally lose muscle mass becoming weaker. The loss of muscle mass reduces the amount of calories that get burned and as a result they tend to put on weight.
Benefits of strength training includes increased lean muscle mass, increased bone density, increased muscles strength and a lower possibility of injury due to better muscle support.
