Cross Training
Cross-training is training in sports other than the sport one is usually involved in. The goal is improving overall performance by conditioning different muscle groups, develop a new set of skills and reduce the monotony of repetitive exercises.
Cross training also allows you to vary the stress on specific muscles allowing recovery and reducing the risk of injury from repetitive strain or overuse. Overall it can produce a higher level of all-round conditioning for the entire body and not just specific muscle groups.
